Tiger Woods Winning. Is It Good or Bad For The Game of Golf ?

So I was watching the 2009 PGA Tour golf season on television this year. We all know how Tiger Woods won 6 times this year after having reconstructed knee surgery last summer. And yes- he won the 2008 US OPEN the week before surgery practically on one foot. End of the 2009 season, Tiger Woods is twice as good as the number 2 player in the world. His winning percentage is 25% every time he tees it up. Last week Tiger Woods became the first sportsman to reach a net worth of 1 billion dollars. I think 14 top 10's out of 18 starts including the 6 wins would most certainly quiet the critics who asked the question if Tiger Woods will ever be the same again after the surgery. The most astonishing thing is that people are not surprised that he does all of this.

So the question I ask myself. Is it good for a sport when someone like Tiger is far more superior than its competitors? When Tiger doesn't play in a tournament the television ratings drop down by half. Is this a good thing? Some people agree and some don't.

What do you think?

  1. I believe that having Tiger play this sport is amazing and watching him play is so exciting. However having the ratings drop when Tiger is not playing in the tournament is not a positive thing. I believe the game of golf would not be the same without Tiger, even if he is 2 twice as good as the number 2 player in golf.
